I’m now at 80% to 70, thanks to some diligent questing and some instances. Earlier yesterday I was invited to a group for Slab and then was promptly removed from the group. I sat there, annoyed, when one of the group members who I had grouped with before whispered me, “Hey mate, why did you leave?” I replied “Got kicked.” He said it was probably because the leader was an asshole and mentioned that most of his gear was e-bayed anyway so he had left himself. That made me feel a little bit better, but I’ve been turned down for groups more than once because I wasn’t 70. C’mon, if I can join the LFG for these instances, I have a right to go in them too.
So I just shrugged it off and continued leveling in Netherstorm. I was amused greatly by the Eco-Domes and enjoyed their bit of color and life in the middle of the wasteland. Oh, though when I first logged on, I had one of my friends over at the house. She plays a warlock, and the two of us had leveled from mid 40’s together until level 60. She’s level 64 now and still without her epic mount. So having had made some awesome friends from PuG’s, I whispered a pair of them who helped us get her the epic mount she had been pining for.
Eventually I was invited by a group to do Shadow Labyrinth, and was in a group full of 70’s. As the youngin’ of the group, I felt is especially necessary to trap brilliantly and pull my weight in their presence. We only wiped once on Murmur, and I got my first key fragment for Kara. On the way out, while everyone was giving out their praise of “gj guys!” and “good group!” I put in there a little “I think I did okay for a 69.” In response I got a mini barrage of “You did good,” and “You did great with your traps.” Made me feel a little warm and fuzzy inside, and I’m a sucker for praise.
So then I went back to my thing for a while.
Later I got some whispers from one of my better friends on WoW because he was on while at work. He couldn’t really go out and do anything because of constant interruptions but we chatted for a little bit and he asked me if I wanted to run Botanica with him when he got off work. Of course, I mentioned that I thought you could only to anything in Tempest Keep with a flying mount. I was right, and he said that we should still run something later. I got off for a bit to run up to the gas station with my roommate and fiancĂ© and then came back on later.
My friend got back on and we had to decide what we wanted to do. He’s a tankadin, so finding a group wouldn’t be too hard since he would have been the hardest position to fill. I really wanted the bow from Shattered Halls, but we decided to go for Black Morass instead because of the rep, the bow that the first boss drops, and he knew that he would be geared enough to tank it. Didn’t get the bow (cue sad face) but I did get Helm of Desolation to go with my Greaves of Desolation which will give me a set bonus once I get to 70. I also got Laughing Skull Battle-Harness so I definitely didn’t go away empty-handed.
Very nice. Congratulations on your new items.
The only time that I got kicked out of a group in recent memory wasn’t because I was too low. Or terrible at what I did (like said huntard in one of my posts).
On Feathermoon, we have a channel called HeroicAlliance, where… well. It’s just an additional LFG channel, for Heroic instances. Someone asked for a CC DPS for heroic Slave Pens, or something to that effect, and I told them that I would hop over to my mage and come. And can help summon, as she was parked in Colifang at the time. I get invited, we get a full group, I go stand right next to the stone to wait for someone else to show up and help me summon.
Next thing I know, I’m not grouped anymore.
[To the leader]: -blink-
[Leader]: Had a friend that wanted to come. Friend > PuG.
[Me]: I would have bowed out without a fuss should you have asked, rather than just booting.
[Leader]: You’re right, that was rude of me. Sorry.
And that was the end of it, really. -shrugs- I’ve trusted HeroicAlliance a lot less since that day.
Oh, and congratulations on sixty-nine – almost seventy.
